Home Learning

We do not have a Policy of formal homework but parental help is encouraged in all areas.

The aims of our home learning are:

  • To support and consolidate children’s learning
  • To give extra help and support to children with special needs
  • To enable each child to have the opportunity to improve their basic skills in number, reading and spelling
  • Praise, encouragement and support are vital contributions every parent can make to the development of their child's increasing self-confidence and academic progress.

Foundation Children

Children are encouraged to read daily, and the benefit of parents (or other family members) sharing these books, praising and encouraging their child is immense. Children who read a minimum of 5 times per week will be rewarded with a sticker.

Year One

Reading

Children in Year One are also expected to read daily and children who manage to do this for a minimum of 5 times per week will be rewarded with a sticker.

Maths

Children are provided with a Maths Practise book, where we encourage children to practise basic skills to increase their number fluency.  The 'I can...' statements which are age related for Year One children, are printed in the front of the book.  Children refer to these, practise and tick off when you/they feel they have achieved them.  Children are encouraged to bring in their books on a Friday and the teacher will reward any children who have practised at home, with a sticker.

Spelling

As with Maths, the children are given a spelling book for them to learn spellings at home.  Words are set for the half term, broken down into weekly lists of 5 per week. Each list will be tested on Fridays,  children are encouraged to bring in their books on a Friday and any practise at home will be rewarded with a sticker.

Year 2

Children are provided with a 'Home Learning' book which the children can work in at home.

Maths

Children are encouraged to practise their basic skills to increase their number fluency.  The 'I can...' statements which are age related for Year Two children, are printed in the front of the book.  Children refer to these, practise and tick off when you/they feel they have achieved them.  Children are encouraged to bring in their books on a Friday and the teacher will reward any children who have practised at home, with a sticker.

Spelling

As with Maths, the children are encouraged to learn spellings at home.  Words are set for the half term, broken down into weekly lists of 10 per week which are stuck in the back of the book. Each list will be tested in school weekly,  children are encouraged to bring in their books on a Friday and any practise at home will be rewarded with a sticker.

Other Learning

Some children may wish to continue to research a particular topic at home and we value any support that can be given in this area.  Please see the curriculum newsletter for topic themes.

We also have access to an online learning tool called Language Nut.  This is an online resource to help children's spoken language and understanding.  It is available in a number of different languages.  Please look out for the username and password coming soon!
